Post layout refresh

We’ve overhauled the post layout with a cleaner, more focused design. Activity is now grouped more intelligently — related comments thread together, making it easier to follow conversations.

The layout is now simpler and less cluttered, with better spacing and clearer visual hierarchy. The new design is the default for all posts.

Two-way Slack sync

The Slack integration now syncs comments in both directions. When someone comments on a post in Cushion, it appears in Slack. When someone replies in Slack, it shows up in Cushion. This keeps conversations unified regardless of where people prefer to work.

Comments sync automatically for any post shared to Slack. The author’s name and avatar display correctly on both sides, maintaining context about who said what.

You’ll need to reconnect your Slack integration for this to work. Any previous posts comments sent aren’t synced automatically.

We’ve shipped a lot over the past few months. The highlight is our new Slack integration, but we’ve also made significant improvements to how you navigate and manage your inbox.

Slack integration

Cushion now integrates with Slack. Connect your workspace to automatically cross-post to Slack channels, keeping your team informed wherever they prefer to work.

When you share a post to Slack, it displays the actual author’s name and avatar — not a generic bot. Updates sync bidirectionally: when a post is resolved or edited in Cushion, the Slack message updates to reflect that. Slack shares also appear in your post’s activity timeline, so you can see exactly where discussions are happening.

To set it up, head to Settings → Integrations and connect your Slack workspace.

Keyboard shortcuts

We’ve added comprehensive keyboard shortcuts throughout Cushion. Press ? anywhere to see available shortcuts, or visit Settings → Keyboard shortcuts to customise them.

Navigation, actions, and editing all have dedicated shortcuts for faster workflows.

Customisable sidebar

The sidebar is now fully customisable. Drag and drop items to reorder them, create groups, and organise your navigation however you prefer. Your layout persists across sessions.

Inbox filters

Filter your inbox by type — posts, comments, mentions, check-ins, and more. Quickly focus on what matters without scrolling through everything.

AI channel suggestions

When creating a new post, Cushion now suggests the most relevant channel based on your content. It learns from your team’s posting patterns to make smarter recommendations over time.

• Performance — Inbox loads significantly faster with optimised database queries (reduced from ~15-20 queries to ~3-5)
• Mobile — Better touch targets, filter dropdowns, and bulk actions on mobile
• Notifications — Your own comments no longer mark posts as unread
• Safari — Fixed avatar flicker when navigating and icon display issues
• Desktop app — OAuth flows now open in your system browser, and notification prompts work correctly
• Read status — Marking items read/unread now updates correctly across all views
• Slack commands — Fixed slash commands in the editor
• Check-ins — Mobile layout improvements and proper mention notifications
• DMs — Unread indicator properly clears after reading messages
• Onboarding — Refreshed experience with visual fixes

Cushion is now in early access. You no longer need an invite to sign up — any team can create a workspace and start using Cushion today.

Early access will run for the next few months while we keep shipping improvements and getting feedback. This also marks the start of our first public pricing.

We’ve updated Check-ins to make them more flexible and easier to use.

Check-ins let you and your team share progress, blockers, and plans on a regular schedule. Think of them as async standups: everyone can post updates at their own pace, and you can see what’s happening across the team, all in one place.

How to set up a check-in routine

1. Go to your team workspace and open the “Check-ins” tab.
2. Click “New check-in” to create a daily or weekly check-in.
3. Choose the schedule, add a name.
4. Team members will be prompted to submit their check-in when it’s time.

How check-ins work

• Each check-in collects updates from all team members on the chosen schedule.
• See who’s checked in and who hasn’t—no one gets left behind.
• Group responses by day or week for easy review.
• Missed a check-in? You’ll get a reminder.
• Connect your GitHub account to automatically include recent activity in your update.

Who can use check-ins

• All team members can participate in check-ins.
• Admins can create, edit, or delete check-ins.
• Guests do not participate in check-ins.

Check-ins help your team stay accountable, celebrate wins, and surface blockers—without the need for another meeting.

How to add a guest to a channel

Guests can be added to a team workspace by inviting them to a channel or to a team workspace. Users must have administrator permissions to add guests.

1. Create a new channel from the sidebar.
2. Click the ‘Private’ toggle in the channel settings.
3. Add members to the channel.

How to add a guest to a team workspace

1. Go to the team workspace settings.
2. In the People area, start typing the guest’s email address.
3. Hit enter to add the guest.
4. They’ll receive an email with a link to join the team workspace.
5. The guest can now access the team workspace and collaborate with you.

Guest accounts

Guests can be invited to specific channels, either during channel creation, by editing an existing channel, or from workspace settings—and can post, comment, and interact within those channels. They can’t access any other channels unless invited, and they’re restricted from team-wide features like check-ins, team settings, creating channels, or seeing global member lists.

Channels now have the option of being private. Use them to discuss sensitive topics with your team.

How to create a private channel

1. Create a new channel from the sidebar.
2. Click the ‘Private’ toggle in the channel settings.
3. Add members to the channel.
